Summary of the role:
The Sales and Operations Manager is the lead manager in the Operating Unit and has responsibility for delivering agreed business and social targets. The role holder working with a team of direct reports and functional support (HR, Finance, Legal, External Affairs) is responsible for business operations in both Guinea and Mali.
Purpose of the role:
The S&O Manager is a critical role in leading and coordinating all business activities in liaison with respective OU Functional Managers in order to deliver the OU operation plan as measured by C3, C5, NIBIAT and ROACE.
To act as the Shell Group representative in Guinea and Mali and ensure that Group business principles and policies are complied with. This role is critical in coordinating all staff issues in liaison with respective Functional Managers in Guinea and Mali.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for delivering on the OU Plan (including OU marketing plan, OU operational excellence targets and other plans in line with Pan-African Class of Business (CoB) and Class of Service (CoS) guidelines)
- Accountable for assigned P&L and balance sheet targets
- Developing sales volumes and meeting sales/financial targets and other Key Performance Indicator’s
- Collate & contribute to country specific business plans and marketing strategies from Pan-African CoB organisations
- Monitor sales, operations and marketing implementation activities
- Appraise Regional sales & operations VP of the implementation progress in the country
- Ensure implementation of best-practices, policies and standards
- Drive special projects aimed at improving overall OU performance
- To ensure that Group Business Principles, Code of Conduct requirements, Group Business Controls, HSSE requirements, are met in every activity carried out by Shell in the two countries.
- To act as spokesperson for Shell in the Oil Industry and to Government in Guinea and Mali.
Competencies Required:
The ideal candidate should possess the following experience, knowledge, & qualifications:
- Solid knowledge and experience of HSSE requirements & guidelines
- Ability to instill an operational excellence attitude and to effectively build a team
- Prior experience in managing a country/operating unit. Good knowledge of performance management process and people management skills
- Prior experience in Supply and Distribution will be an asset
- Experience of Leadership and project management skills
- Knowledge of country level financial reporting
- Managing many different functions and wide variety of people and perspectives
- 8-10 years experience at senior level, good University education.
- An engineering degree would be an advantage.
Key Challenges
This is a new role and the incumbent will have to establish the role in the OU. Additionally incumbent will be operating within a highly regulated environment and as such requires effective relationship building capacity. Incumbent will be operating virtually from Line Manager and will also have to build effective relationships with other stakeholders to achieve objectives.
